The Shimano Dura-Ace R9270-C60 Carbon Disc tubular rear wheel is designed for the demands of professional racing. It prioritises aerodynamic efficiency and lateral stiffness. For higher speed situations and more powerful efforts, the redesigned wheel combines a deep-section, all-carbon tubular rim with an all-new hub design that reduces weight while improving drivetrain stiffness. The C60’s construction places a greater emphasis on lateral stiffness, making it a sprinter’s dream.

Technology:
– Centre lock: The CENTER LOCK system enables easy installation of the disc with slot mounting and a locking ring. The locking ring assembly system reduces working hours by decreasing the amount of time for both installation and removal. In addition, the safety fastening with the slotted mount increases accuracy and rigidity while improving braking efficiency.
– D2: Wind direction affects aerodynamic performance. To create the D2 tyre, Shimano engineers considered both headwinds and sidewinds, with the goal of achieving optimal performance in real-world cycling conditions. Extensive prototype testing, in the wind tunnel and on the road, showed that a wide rim with a deep rim flange provides better performance in a wide variety of conditions. On cornering angles between 0 and 15 degrees, the Shimano D2 rim profile reduces air resistance better than any other aerodynamic rim. This rim design also improves the lateral stiffness of the wheel and deliver better vertical handling for improved control, comfort and durability on the road.
– E-THRU: The tool-less thru-axle quick release system optimizes weight balance and rigidity and allows for ease of use with a reliable internal cam mechanism. The 15mm thru-axle system is 15% stiffer torsionally and 25% stiffer in cross section compared to a traditional 9mm quick release front axle system.
– Optbal: The Optbal rear wheel system incorporates 21 spokes with 14 spokes on the drive side and 7 on the opposite side of the drive. The cassette spacing on today’s wheels produces an unbalanced tension on traditional 1:1 spoke systems.
